Apache Shores is a community along the shores of Lake Austin just below Lake Travis and Mansfield Dam.? Started as a lake living resort community in the 1960’s, the area struggled to develop perhaps due to its remoteness and local economics at the time.? Intentions were good in the beginning.? A community center, swimming pool, tennis courts and stables were built, and Lake Austin access was provided by boat ramp, park and day dock.? All of these amenities remain except for the horse stables.

Into the 1980’s, the area faced deteriorating roads and infrastructure and a lack of enforcement of deed restrictions.? Despite its beautiful terrain, Apache Shores suffered from a little too much “wild west” rule which led to dumping, haphazard construction and a plethora of tax foreclosed lots primarily owned by out-of-area folks who had little concern for what happened to the lakeside community or the few hundred dollars they had invested in a one-time, resort land deal.

With the formation of the Lake Travis Independent School District, a widening of Highway 620 and the Austin mini-tech boom of the 1990’s, Apache Shores re-bounded into a full-fledged Cinderella story of subdivisions.? Homeowners took control of the community center and parks, negotiated road improvements and water deals and enforced deed restrictions to transform the neighborhood into an up and coming Lake Austin beauty.

Today, Apache Shores remains diverse but affordable for lake area residents.? Located less than 20 miles from downtown Austin, plenty of generously-sized, vacant lots are still available for less than $50,000, and home prices range from the mid-100’s to over a million for waterfront homes.? Residents enjoy Lake Austin access through a private homeowners’ park, and children attend the award-winning Lake Travis schools.
